Today is Denim Day, the annual, international observance that occurs during Sexual Assault Awareness Month. On this day, millions of people wear denim to show their solidarity with sexual assault survivors.
The first Denim Day took place in Los Angeles in 1999, following a decision by the Italian Supreme Court that overturned a rape conviction. The court believed that since the survivor wore tight jeans, she must have helped her assailant remove her jeans, thus implying consent.
If you have experienced sexual assault or violence, please reach out for help. The @CoalitionFamily (https://thecoalition.org) provides direct services to victims of domestic violence and sexual assault and educates the community regarding violence against women, children, and men.
